HAPPYVILLE: A BOY ON A JOURNEY is a semi-autobiographical story about a boy who lost his smile and has set out on a journey to a mythical place called Happyville. The characters and situations in Happyville represent the people, places and situations that the author, David Vincent Yancey has encountered throughout his journey through life. Happyville is a delightful mixture of playful rhyme and wonderful illustrations depicting The Boys adventures as he sets out on his journey to recapture his smile.
THE CHARACTERS
Meet The Boy who lost his joy.
He somehow lost his smile while playing
seek and hide and is now searching
for his lost happiness in a place called Happyville.
The Boy reflects the author's and so many others who
have searched for happiness and encountered all
the people, trials and tribulations along the way.
Come join The Boy on his journey...
The first character The Boy meets is The Old Man.
The Old Man represents parents, freinds and teachers who
offer wisdom and direction thorough life
and to find Happyville.
In Sadness Woods The boy encounters The Dark Figure.
The Dark figure reflects those who stand in our way or
who try to discourage us because of their jealousies
and insecurities.

While on the road The Boy runs into The Angry Man and
Rude Woman. These two represent those who we have all had encounters with. Never happy but always happy to be angry and rude. |
At the Great Lake of Tears The Boy comes upon the Boat Lady.
The Boat Lady is one of those helpful people always willing to lend a hand or offer a helpful suggestion.
And then the Boy meets The Shiny Man.
We all know this type. They offer wealth and happiness but all they really have is a facade and worthless trinkets.
